This is the mid-September 2026 edition of the area roundup for buyers considering 6210 Glen Court in Heidelberg Township. This week the focus is on peak hawk migration at Bake Oven Knob, the D&L Trail at Slatington, what is on the local school calendars, and a few new places to eat along the Route 309 corridor. As always, schedules shift, so please confirm details directly with the venues and districts linked below before heading out.

Bake Oven Knob: Peak Hawk Migration Is Here

If you live near the Blue Mountain, mid-September is one of the best weeks of the year for birding close to home. Bake Oven Knob, a rocky overlook on the Kittatinny Ridge in State Game Lands 217 just north of Germansville, is one of eastern Pennsylvania's most celebrated hawk-watch sites. The Bake Oven Knob Autumn Hawk Watch, run by the Lehigh Gap Nature Center as part of the Kittatinny Raptor Corridor Project, has counted migrating raptors here each fall since 1961. The count runs from mid-August through November, and September is the peak, driven largely by broad-winged hawks. The best flights come one to two days after a cold front brings northwest winds. From the gravel lot you walk about 0.8 mile along the Appalachian Trail to the open overlook. On a clear day the broad-winged kettles riding the thermals are a spectacular sight, and the fall foliage from the ridgetop is reason enough for the short hike.

The D&L Trail at Slatington for a Fall Ride or Walk

Just a few minutes from the property, the Lehigh Gap–Slatington section of the D&L Trail follows the Lehigh River through the valley. Part of the 140-mile Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor, the trail here is about 1.9 miles of finished path connecting the Slatington Trailhead to the Lehigh Gap Nature Center Trailhead, which meets the Appalachian Trail. It links as well to the Slate Heritage Trail and the Walnutport Canal Spur, so there is room to extend an outing. With the trees turning along the river, it is a gentle, family-friendly ride or walk for a mild September afternoon. The Discover Lehigh Valley fall guide has more seasonal trail and festival ideas across the region.

Northwestern Lehigh: Picture Day and a Busy District Week

On the Northwestern Lehigh calendar, Dan's Camera Picture Day is set for Thursday, September 24, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Northwestern Elementary gym, a good date for families with elementary students to note. For anyone tracking the district at large, the Board of School Directors holds its regular September business meeting on Wednesday, September 16, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the District Board Room, on the board's usual third-Wednesday cadence. The district homepage is the fastest place to find the live calendar and building announcements.

Parkland: Cheer BINGO This Sunday

In the Parkland School District, the Parkland Cheerleaders host a Gift Card BINGO on Sunday, September 20, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Parkland High School cafeteria, a community fundraiser that is popular with families. A week later, the Parkland Education Foundation holds its annual Golf Outing on Saturday, September 26, supporting grants and programs across the district. September 15 also marks the start of National Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs through October 15, so several district and community programs may reflect that observance. Confirm times on the district homepage and high school calendar.

South Whitehall: Community Day and Fall Festivals

South Whitehall's signature autumn community event, Community Day at Covered Bridge Park on Lapp Road, is a recurring late-September gathering with live music, a vendor trail, kids' entertainment and food trucks. The township has been finalizing this year's program, so check the South Whitehall events page before planning around a date. Just south in Orefield, the Lehigh Valley Scream Park also opens its haunt season for the fall, with nighttime attractions, hayrides and corn-maze programming as the weeks get darker. Farther north along Route 309, the Lehigh Valley Zoo inside the Trexler Nature Preserve remains open daily through October.

Where to Eat Nearby

A few fresh picks round out the usual favorites along the Route 309 corridor. China II at 6299 PA-309 in New Tripoli is a reliable spot for Chinese takeout and dine-in a short drive from the property. Just up the road at 7432 PA-309, Giuseppe's Pizza is a neighborhood pizza-and-subs favorite, and Two Kings Pizzeria at 7366 PA-309 is another easy pick. In Slatington, The New Country View Diner at 6210 PA-873 and Chris & Eli Family Restaurant at 7115 PA-873 are both handy for a meal coming or going. And for a sit-down dinner close to home, the Bake Oven Inn at 7705 Bake Oven Rd in Germansville is minutes from the property. Most are family-run and easy to fold into a home-tour day: grab lunch in New Tripoli, walk the D&L trail at Slatington, then swing back to Germansville for the afternoon tour.
